Are Sample and Tooling Fees Credited Toward a Custom EVA Case Production Order?

Learn why sample and tooling fees may be treated differently, when a credit may apply, and what buyers should confirm in writing before paying development charges.

Are Sample and Tooling Fees Credited Toward a Custom EVA Case Production Order?
One of the most common commercial questions in a custom EVA case project is whether sample or tooling fees will be refunded or credited when bulk production starts.
There is no universal industry rule.
The answer depends on what the fee covers and the commercial agreement for that project.
Sample Fees and Tooling Fees Are Different
A sample fee normally supports prototype labor, materials, assembly and project-specific development.
A tooling fee may relate to a shell mold, molded insert, logo part or another reusable production tool.
Because they pay for different work, they should not automatically be treated the same way.
A Credit Is a Commercial Term, Not an Assumption
Some suppliers may credit part of a sample or development charge after a confirmed production order.
Others may treat the fee as a separate cost because the development work has already been completed.
Buyers should ask before payment rather than assuming the fee will disappear later.
Confirm What Happens to Reusable Tooling
If a tooling charge creates a reusable mold or production fixture, ask whether it will be stored for repeat orders, whether maintenance is included and what happens if the specification changes.
These questions are often more important than whether the first fee is credited.
Put the Agreement in the Quotation
The quotation or proforma invoice should state whether a charge is refundable, creditable, reusable or one-time.
Clear wording helps avoid misunderstandings after the sample is approved.
Bravie Case recommends treating development fees as a defined project term rather than an informal promise.
Before Paying Development Fees
Ask Bravie Case for a clear breakdown of what each charge covers and how it will be handled if the project moves into production.
