When buying custom EVA cases from China, the product price is only part of the final cost.
The selected shipping term can change who manages pickup, export procedures, international freight, customs clearance and final delivery.
For most buyers, EXW, FOB and DDP are three common options worth understanding before comparing quotations.
What Does EXW Mean for the Buyer?
EXW gives the buyer more control over the logistics process.
The buyer normally arranges transportation from the agreed supplier location using its own forwarder or logistics partner.
This option can work well for companies that already have:
- A freight forwarder in China
- Established customs procedures
However, a buyer without logistics experience may find an EXW quotation difficult to compare with a delivered quotation.
The case unit price may look lower simply because most transportation costs are not included.
When Does FOB Make Sense?
FOB is commonly used by experienced importers who want the supplier to handle the export side in China while the buyer controls the main international freight.
The supplier typically coordinates the shipment to the agreed port and completes the agreed export-side responsibilities.
The buyer then manages the main freight and destination side through its nominated forwarder.
FOB can be practical when the buyer wants more control over international freight but does not want to organize factory pickup and export handling separately.
Why Do Some Buyers Prefer DDP?
DDP is attractive to buyers who want a more complete delivered-cost quotation.
Instead of organizing several logistics stages separately, the buyer receives a quotation based on delivery to an agreed destination.
This can simplify budgeting, especially for:
- Smaller procurement teams
- Buyers without a regular China forwarder
- Projects that need a clearer delivered-cost estimate
However, the exact destination and service requirements still need to be confirmed before freight is quoted.
Do Not Compare EXW and DDP Prices Directly
An EXW quote and a DDP quote are not equivalent.
One mainly reflects the product at the supplier side, while the other may include a much larger part of the logistics chain.
When comparing suppliers, make sure the delivery basis is the same.
Otherwise, a lower quotation may simply exclude costs that appear later.
What Information Is Needed for a Shipping Quote?
For a useful freight estimate, buyers should normally provide:
- Commercial or residential delivery address where relevant
- Whether a freight forwarder is already available
Once the final case dimensions and carton packing are confirmed, the freight quotation can become more accurate.
Which Option Should You Choose?
Choose the shipping term based on your logistics experience and purchasing structure.
EXW may suit buyers with strong logistics control.
FOB can suit importers who manage their own international freight.
DDP may be more convenient when the buyer wants a clearer door-delivery solution.
There is no single best option for every order.
